Hotel Demo… Cheaper than Therapy!
Things are happening at the Knox this week! Dane and I work at the hotel almost every Monday night, it’s like a date and work night combined! Haha! We try to make it fun, and this past Monday did not disappoint! We actually had FUN taking out cast iron!
Making Room for New Plumbing
The old exposed cast iron plumbing has been one of my main concerns when starting this project. I had no idea how we were going to break it apart and dispose of it. Thankfully, I married Dane, who balances my stress with his “we’ll figure it out” attitude. Seriously, I couldn’t be more thankful for him and how well we complement each other especially with this undertaking! So, while I was worried, Dane did some research (also known as “YouTube”) and found a way to break it up and get it out… the sledgehammer!
Sounds too simple, right? I thought so too! Nope, it worked like a charm. We both were able to take a crack at the cast iron, and low and behold it broke apart easily and is gone. LESS than 30 minutes I should add! Most importantly, we avoided getting scratched or knocked unconscious by falling chunks of iron.
Also, I have to admit that it was quite fun too; who needs therapy when you can take a sledgehammer to cast iron?!
Protecting Against Fires
Aside from our amazing sledgehammering skills and freshly-toned biceps (haha), other great things are happening this week and next! The sprinklers started to go in on the upper floors! They are starting on the third floor and working their way down. This is exciting progress to see, but it is also a relief to know that our guests will be safe. (And it helps us sleep easier at night knowing our building is less likely to burn down after we put in all of this hard work, haha.) Installing a sprinkler system was a big decision during our planning, but we believe this is worth every penny and the best option.
And finally, plumbing is going to start going in NEXT WEEK! Hallelujah! We are so excited! Materials are purchased (only 900 feet of piping…) and the plumber is setting up his tools for installation!
And Finally… Supply Chain…
On another note, we’ve started to notice the effects of the supply chain backlog. We’ve had good luck so far with our sample orders, but some items are becoming hard to get ahold of–especially king size headboards. While the world gets all of that sorted out, we are continuing to accept donations of antique furniture and decor. If you have anything that can be used in the Knox, please feel free to reach out!
