Making a list and checking it twice…
Well, it’s safe to say that things are really starting to come along! The plumber started drilling holes and installing piping last Friday and continues to forge ahead! Dane sends me progress photos and it has become the best part of my day! Haha! With plumbing going in, we are now looking forward to what is next on our to-do list.
A More Manageable To-Do List
While our to-do list may still be long, it doesn’t feel infinite anymore, which is super encouraging! A lot of what is left is hired out to professionals; as much as we’d like to think otherwise, some of the work is out of our scope of expertise, and we just don’t have time to learn for our first phase of renovations. We’ve been busy outsourcing the tiling, mudding, staircase refinishing, and more to take a big load off us! As for Dane and I, we need to finish scraping and then start skimming the plaster hallway walls to prep for paint, finish prepping the doors, and finish ordering things for each room (bedding, towels, rugs, accessories), and lastly, the floors!
Choosing a Paint Palette
Speaking of paint, that is something I have started to work on this week! I’ve picked out a wall color to use in each room and am now working on the perfect color for the trim. Dane and I disagree a little as to what color the trim should be, so my plan is to pick out a couple options and then decide together what will be best. When we have that all worked out I will definitely be sharing it here, so be on the lookout!
Transomania
Another exciting accomplishment this week was ordering transoms! Each door in the hotel has space for transom windows above, but most are now gone. These transoms were originally used to help with ventilation because the building didn’t have central heat or A/C when it was first built. Now, the transoms are more of a decorative feature, and we have decided to bring them back! After a lot of looking, we found a great company to custom make transoms to match what we currently have! There is still one transom left on the second floor (I’ll have to clean it up and scrape off the paint, but it gives us an idea of what used to be there), so they are going to replicate that exact style!
Gift Wrapping Service
This time of year can be overwhelming. So much to do, so little time. If you’re going to be around this weekend (11/19-11/21), consider dropping off your gifts to be wrapped for you!
This weekend, Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Jan Pistole is hosting a gift wrapping service to raise money for the Christmas for Kids program!
Here’s how it works:
Step 1. Hit up the stores along Main Street–as well as the Craft and Vendor Show and Christkindl Market–to make a dent in your Christmas shopping.
Step 2. Stop by the Knox corner storefront.
Step 3. Drop off your gifts to be wrapped while you grab lunch, continue shopping or run other errands.
Step 4. Come back to pick up your gifts, magically wrapped and ready to go!
Simple as that! And the best part: you’re not only saving time, you’re helping make a child’s Christmas very special this year!
We will also have holiday treats in case you’d like to stay and wait!
